Podium Steering Wheel Fanatec GT World Challenge Neutral displaying Instead of Selected Gear

Hello, I am reaching out to the forum for assistance regarding my Fanatec Button Module Endurance connected to the Podium Hub. When shifting gears, the OLED screen randomly displays "Neutral (N)" instead of the selected gear. I have tried several solutions without success: - Testing on different games - Checking the connections - Reinstalling the drivers - Updating the firmware - Switching to automatic mode - Disabling the clutch - Changing the QR on the steering wheel side - Ensuring the plastic washer is properly tightened. Unfortunately, the issue persists.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I tried replacing the steering wheel with a ClubSport Steering Wheel F Esports V2, and it correctly displays the gears. It should therefore be a problem with the Hub or the BME.

If I remove the BME cover for a simple visual inspection, does it void the warranty?

  • That's a known Firmware issue with the BME to be fixed at some point in the future.

Is it certain? Is there a source for this information? Because in the driver and firmware release notes, I saw that there was an issue with missed speed, and this only with the DD1 (I have a Clubsport DD+). Moreover, I haven’t seen any information or videos online showing a problem similar to mine.

  • Yes that is certain and internally known and on a (big) list of issues to be fixed at some point in the future.

  • Okay, thank you. It's a shame, I wasn't expecting this when I bought the item. I couldn't find any information about it before my purchase.

Upon further consideration, I doubt the issue is related to a firmware problem. In discussions on a Fanatec forum on Facebook, users who own a BME are not experiencing this issue. If the update were the cause, it would affect all users.

I have opened a support ticket with Fanatec and will see what they have to say.

  • It IS a firmware issue and known to the developers. It happens from time to time that the gear is showing N instead of the correct gear. This CAN happen on every base but is especially happening on the CS DD.

It is under investigation to be fixed in an upcoming firmware update at some point in the future. Until then, it is "normal" that the gear sometimes shows N on the BME, especially when used on the CS DD.

  • Thank you again for your response. I take note of it and will consider it correct while waiting for confirmation from technical support.

However, it is important to emphasize that, in my case, this issue does not occur 'from time to time' but systematically in every session, approximately every 5 to 10 seconds, as seen in my video.

That being said, since this feature is clearly listed as part of the product's characteristics at the time of my purchase, and in accordance with the legal 2-year warranty provisions, I consider the issue I am facing to be a defect affecting the quality and normal use of the product.

Since technical support has been notified of the issue, if this is not corrected within a reasonable timeframe, I will assert my rights.

You can try to assert your rights to get an exchange but that wont fix the issue as its firmware related.

And there is no right actually to send the stuff back to them and get a refund when a software issue, which is NOT a defect of the whole product, prevents a device from working 100% correct. Otherwise I could also ask Apple to take back my iPhone 16 Pro for a full refund because of several software issues of iOS...

  • Being in the European Union, according to articles L217-4 and L217-12 of the French Consumer Code, the seller is required to deliver a product that complies with the contract and is responsible for any defects in conformity existing at the time of delivery.

If the product has a defect, including a software issue that prevents it from functioning properly and is not repaired or corrected within a reasonable time frame, you have the right to request a repair, replacement, or refund.

In the case of an iPhone, although there may be software issues, Apple offers repair solutions or software updates that can resolve the problem "within a reasonable time frame" (which applies to my request).

If, despite this, the iPhone continues to exhibit a significant software defect, the consumer can also assert their rights under the legal guarantee of conformity.

Well, as I already said, the issue is known and there will be a fix for this issue in a reasonable time Frame at some point in the future, there is just no ETA whenever the fix might be released but could be this year.

Anyway, that would be something for the legal department, maybe even for a court to decide, that's above my responsibility.

  • No problem, I was simply expressing my point of view, and I hope Fanatec will take the issue that its customers may encounter seriously.

The hardware has an expensive price, so it's normal to expect it to work reliably.

If they resolve the problem professionally without needing to wait a year for a fix, then that's great, and So I congratulate them and thank them in advance.

For information, I noticed that disabling the LEDs allows the OLED display to function properly, which would suggest that the BME is unable to handle all the information being transmitted to it simultaneously.

So yes, this replaces the problem with another.😅
