Clubsport V1 pedals standalone usage

I recently got myself some V1 pedals, as my old ones (other brand, pot based) broke and decided this would be a nice cheap upgrade. I see that they have both the rj connector and a USB (built in, not adapter) option. I currently have them connected via the usb. Is there a difference when using them with the rj connector vs the USB?

The RJ connector is meant for usage directly with a Fanatec wheelbase.
Can the V1 pedals be upgraded to V3 pedals?
