Why no option to change preset names
Am I missing something, or is there no way to name presets. Seems like a fairly simple function that would be standard in higher-end products like this.

No you dont miss anything.
It's something which will never come.
You have FanaLab for that where you can Name the profile how you want. But the hardware "presets" will always be SETUP 1-5

would love to cosign on this. Not everyone is using a PC and starting the sims from Fanalab. It would be perfect for Xbox and PlayStation users. I think this would be somthing that can be implemented without much of an issue .

Because, if it's even possible at all, it would be a massive amount of work and there are much bigger issues. Also years ago it was already confirmed that this feature wont come.
It's developers' job to develop features that users would appreciate. That's quite a statement - dismissing it out of hand as it is simply too much work. Good that you acknowledge that there are much bigger issues to be resolved though - would be nice to see some evidence that these are being successfully mitigated. There has been zero visible progress for too long.
thats an interesting persective. for what we pay for the premium products part of that should be for the continued development work. i agree with @gagaryn.
