They can be used to set engine mapping, TC mapping, ABS mapping...
Sims like ACC can set each position to be a specific 'map', instead of just "clockwise up, anti-clockwise down" etc
I just found out today that I'm able to assign a specific TC or ABS setting to each number. I was being dumb and used CON instead of Pulse. Once I set it to Pulse it worked perfectly.
For the rotary encoders to work properly with CONST in ACC, in the button assignments, you need to tick the checkbox for "Extended Input" with an Extended Time of 0.5 seconds.
