Limited button and led support on Xbox

Could Fanatec please give us customers an update on this topic please.

I own a DD1 plus endurance button module and read that other manufacturers support additional buttons; not sure if that’s true.

I drive only on ACC and hoped when reading that the new universal hub would be upgradable I hoped that this would be the starting point for better button support.

Could you Fanatec please give us an update if you guys are in discussions with Microsoft and how we can support here on certain channels to escalate this more on the priority list.

Thanks,

Alexander (Munich)

Don't hold your breath. Xbox users have been asking for better input support from Fanatec for years. It's clear that neither they nor Microsoft are in any kind of a hurry to improve the situation. Past requests such as yours have done nothing but fallen on deaf ears, or at best have received vague replies of something "being worked on" or "looked into", but nothing ever happens. It's a joke.

  • Is anyone from Fanatec reading this? It would be greatly appreciated if we could get an update on this topic.

We are about 100 racers on Discord here in Germany and many of them use Fanatec gear, and we are wondering why Fanatec is not giving any response to us since ages on this topic?

Probably other steps will have to be taken to get much more attention on this topic.

Disappointing ain't it... Come on guys, isn't it about time you support xbox users like you do with PS owners? Would be amazing to have leds working...

  • Maybe because Fanatec has described a gazillion times in similar topics the issue and there is no new update?

  • What exactly have Fanatec described "a gazillion times"? Because I must have missed it. All I ever recall reading is that some people claim it's Microsoft's fault for not making the Xbox OS accessible enough, while other people turn around and claim that it's Fanatec's fault and that they are simply unwilling or unable to implement the required APIs.

The only thing I ever recall seeing that could even remotely be construed as an "official" response was a comment from a Fanatec community manager here in these forums, making a vague statement to the effect of "things are being worked on". (Whatever that's supposed to mean).

  • Let me give you an example what is possible.

Thake this Flight Simulator Yoke from Turtlebeach which I own since a few weeks. It’s connected via one single cable to my XBSX (so extra power supply needed).

It supports a lot more buttons the Xbox controller even has including several levers, conditional light (on the base) and even a Color display on the yoke which displays telemetry data.

What does that tell us? Yes, it is possible to work together with Microsoft to create an API (application programming interface) to support much more metrics than the Xbox controller can.

Thomas, I have been a customer for Fanatec since the first Porsche wheel and I am proud for you what you have achieved, we even met once and had a great chat about your future plans, imagine what a game changer it would be (which marketing wise would be a real asset) to be the first Sim Racing Equipment manufacturer who levelled console sim racing to PC level.

I know that in the past Thomas used to read comments on his forum, probably not anymore, but if someone reads this from the Fanatec Team, please make sure to forward this to Thomas because I am convinced that this is something that he wants to be aware of and would take according actions for his customers but also for his company „Fanatec“ .

    Cheers,

  • That's the frustrating thing. If a device like this exists and functions fully on Xbox, then surely Fanatec's wheels with a few extra buttons/dials and LEDs should be able to as well. The fact that they don't leads me to believe that the problem lies not in the technical possibility, but somewhere else. Is there some sort of licensing agreement that Fanatec would need to enter into with MS to get things working? Perhaps terms of such an agreement, for whatever reason, are not agreeable to one party or the other?

Unfortunately it seems all we can do is speculate and toss ideas around amongst ourselves. I've yet to see an official response from a Fanatec employee (or a MS employee, for that matter) that gives any kind of detail beyond vague suggestions that "things are in motion" (as they have been for years...) 🙄

  • Its up to Fanatec to implement the additional features to support more buttons LED‘s etc.

Take a look at this official statement from an XBOX embassador which matches exactly which my statement with the supported gear from Turtle Beach and the Flight Controller.

  • Any news from Fanatec ? Will be developed a new SDK ?

...Or depends only from the XBOX Operating System?

  • I really do wish I had a dollar for every time someone asked about this...

(Then I could just buy us all PC's and we wouldn't have to worry about it anymore!)

  • As we already all know, Fanatec products lack some native functionality for XBOX consoles. Non functional screens, additional buttons, LED strips, etc... This might come to an end if the community that has the interest would actively push Fanatec and Miccrosoft to work on this matter. Therefore, asking everyone affected to sign the petition and share it in any related group, forum, social media platform, etc. In this way, we might change the way it is. Thanks!
