What is this on my CSL DD?

I've always been curious, but never found anything in writing as to exactly what this "clamp" is on the CDL DD shaft. When trying to look for decent wheel base screen mounts, I've had to factor this piece into it as it forces me to have to mount it higher than I would prefer to prevent contact. As a result, the screen I use sits above the level of my monitor, slightly blocking my view. None of the other DD wheels appear to have this piece, so I'm curious as to why the CSL DD does.

    That clamp holds the QR shaft in place.

    You could also change your monitor mount to something thinner.

    Also Podium DD bases have the issue that you are limited by the clamp. But I use a thin 2mm carbon mount and allows more room to move the monitor up and down. Only on the Podium DD bases there is a second issue that you need some room for your hand to access the QR Collar to tighten the collar when you have a wheel on the base or loosen it when you want to remove the wheel.
