Just don’t travel with it. You never know what customs will do to you. Especially if you are going into one of those 3rd world country. They just do whatever they want. Corrupt most of them are too.
Not to mention what might happen if your base is in checked luggage and is subjected to very hot or cold temperatures. And we've all seen how some airline staff treat checked baggage like they're tossing hot potatoes without a care in the world. Even if you can somehow manage to get the base through in a carry-on bag, I still wouldn't want to take the chance of something happening. Just not worth the risk.
