Combined Pedals option gone from CSPv3

Does anyone know why combined Pedal support doesn't exist when the pedals are plugged in via USB? I previously owned a CSL DD along with my CSPv3s and the option was present when the pedals were attached to the wheelbase. I've since upgraded to a new base and the pedals are plugged in via USB and the option is no longer there.
It is needed to be compatible with some of the older games I want to use a wheel for and I'm curious why the function is limited to being attached via wheelbase as opposed to being a function of the pedals themselves?
