F1 2020 Magnetic paddle issue

So, the day came i got my wheel i start to give it a shot and a couple laps in the Right side paddle has its magnet come loose and has now properly binded up. I dont really want to give it the brute force that it need to get the little ammount of room needed to try and reseat and glue down the magnet. I dont suppose anyone has any ideas to sort this? i was thinking heat to get the outside magnets glue to get it out the way,

Many thanks

  • Hi.

Contact RMA, it's brand new, it should feel right.

  • Just done that, It was more of, if anyone had a better idea than me to reactivate the glue to use alot of force to get these magnets to unbind

Do you have a photo of what happend?

Normally with magnetic paddles the magnets keep them self in place. Looks like Fanatec glues them. But I have some Ascher and SRM magnetic shifters and on both the magnets are lose and easily replaceable with stronger or weaker magnets. Never give any problems.

I have the LE 2020 wheel a few days and no problems with the shifters.

  • Taken off the paddle so its clearer too see. Its properly stuck i have tried to pull the arm, but there is next too no room to try and get some plastic spacers i have to keep it apart.

hmmm ok I see what Fanatec did there. Little bit of a design flaw to put the magnet on the wrong side of the arm. Now you need to really secure them with glue indeed to keep them in place. If they would put the magnet on the other side no glue needed and magnets would keep them self in place. Don’t have a clue why they have chosen for this way.

I think nothing to do and wait till some feedback from fanatec. Maybe you lose warranty if you try to fix it your self.

  • Yeah im not touching it anymore, Ive waited for it long enough i can wait more for a fix :)

mine did exactly the same thing on the same side. Only got to use it for about 3 hours before it happened. I sent them a tech support email but was told it could take 7 days to get a response, hoping thats not the case...

Should I have contacted another department?

  • Well I cannot tell you how pissed off I am, as my brand new F1 2020 after only a few hours use and having waited for an age for it to be delivered has done exactly the same thing. I have attempted to push the magnet back into place but with no joy.

I will contact their tech support tomorrow for a replacement and there had better not be any issue with warranty or replacement.

  • I got the same problem after using my wheel for 3-4 hours. I have contacted tech support, but I wonder if any of you guys has gotten a reply from them and if you have gotten a reply yet, what happened?

  • I just joined the club. Magnet came loose, can't use the steering wheel anymore. I contacted Fanatec through facebook, I'll send them a mail also. Hopefully they can send me a replacement.

I also just noticed that my warranty starts at the day I purchased the unit, as a pre-order, somewhere in May, the unit was shipped to me on July 2nd... So there's 2 months of warranty passed when the unit wasn't even finished and shipped yet!

  • Yes, already noticed that @Patrick Terwee. I've send them a email last week about the warranty starting date but no response yet.

Your warranty starts when you recieved the product, not the order date. That's the case in the EU at least. Fanatec should know.

  • Has anyone got a response? I haven't heard anything and sent my email on July 2nd. Someone on reddit with the same problem said he was contacted and told he could RMA the paddle assembly, not the entire wheel

Well I got sick of waiting for customer service. And then however long it takes them to decide how to solve this issue.

I pulled the shift mechanism apart today and used good quality loctite brand gel superglue to glue the magnet back in place.

Currently waiting for it to dry so I can test, but I expect no issues. It came apart in like 3 minutes very with basic tools. I should have done this right away, and I may just take the other side apart and press the magnet out and re glue so it doesn't cost me a race in the future.

Biggest tip I have is to use a small socket to seat the magnet properly. A few taps with a hammer did the trick

I’m having the same paddle issue with my F1 2020 LTD wheel, but just in a different way. The left paddle doesn’t return all the way back so it’s always showing engaged. I down shift and it stays engaged even if I let go of the paddle, but if I push backward hard on the paddle about 2mm it disengages. So it has to be a problem with the magnet not returning back and disengaging the down shift. This happened right out of the box, can even tell by the audible click sounds dull and doesn’t sound the same as the right paddle clicking. Opened the fanatec wheel application and it shows a blue dot right on the left paddle and it stays on even when I’ve let go of the paddle. Sounds like I need an RMA from fanatec to ship it back to get fixed IF they even respond back to me. FML
