Podium DD Quick Release Mounting Flexibility

Saw this review - https://youtu.be/R-Qd6Hl4IZ0?t=389

Showing flexibility in the QR with what appears to be not a lot of force. Mine doesn't have any at all unless I really wrench on one side.

Wondered what anyone else had experienced??

  • I saw the same and was really worried about that!

The good news is, The DD1 and Porsche 918 rim have been perfectly tight, so it seems like that problem is worked out on newer products.

Another thing that stuck me is that the manual states that you want to tighten the gold ring, just enough to force the rubber up to the front, before you put the wheel on. Then once it's on you tighten the ring even more to enlarge the rubber in the chamber. It's an easy detail to miss and might also impact the soundness of the connection.

So for now, It's not an issue for me.

Also the QR mechanism on the base is user replaceable - so if it "wears out" down the road, I know I can replace that piece if needed.

  • This is due to manufacturing tolerances, some have a lot of slack and some have almost nothing

I submitted my 918RSR last year and got it back with the message that this is completely normal and within the tolerances (see video)

  • that's unfortunate Torbjørn mine is way tighter.

    How old is your 918RSR?

  • The quick release on the 918 is brand new, they replaced it when they had it for check because before I sent it it had so much slack that the release ring moved in and out

although the 918 was completely slack free on my CSW 2.5

I hope they come out with the Podium quick release soon

  • Seems like it would take a good amount of slack to create that kind of movement with that kind of ease.

I wonder if you could wraped the gold piece with a few turns of teflon thread seal tape, if it'd add just enough diameter to stop the movement?

  • Yes it could possibly be some kind of temporary solution, but I do not use the 918 anymore, I have other steering wheel I use with much less slack, a Podium hub I bought last year with very little slack and a Podium hub I bought in April this year with medium slack and one 2020 F1 also with medium to low slack

  • I also don't have any flex on dd1 with v2 wheel or Porsche 918

Torbjørn look at this video and try to mount it like that. Also maybe they fix it in the next dd's release.
