Changing steering wheel while in game

OK this might seem like a dumb question so bare w/ me...
Can I change from my 918 RSR Wheel to my GT3 wheel while in the sim?
I never know which online race I'll be joining beforehand, and feel the need to change the wheel half the time.
All my electronics and software knowledge tells me no, so I don't what to try before getting the nod.
I can't imagine the s/w (AMS2) would like that, even if the wheels / base are ok with it.
Thoughts?

It's fine to swap wheell rims, the base doesn't disconnect from Windows.

I wonder how the button mapping will work out.
I find it's already goofy as the games do not remember different profiles for each rim.
Therefore you can only set your mappings on your preferred rim, and suffer on the other rim(s) with different layout.
If anyone knows a fix for different button mapping on different rims I'd love to hear it!
What I'm hoping to achieve is set the mapping I want on each rim and not have to re do the mapping each time I switch rims.

It would depend on what game you may be playing. Some games have an option to save individual controller layout profiles, some do not.
I recently got pointed to JoyToKey. Life saver if you ask me. No more button binding with a wheel swap.
