anyone was able to use the direction button to "chat" in the wheel? how?

if i use the controller, i can say things like "thanks" "good race" etc but on wheel , it doesnt seem to work even after i map it to the thumb button, all i can do is pull up the telemetry by pressing down and on occasion, it will say "thanks"
