New to the Fanatec world - recommend me a wheel for GT7

Hey all - getting back into GT7 after a few years away from it, so getting a new setup. Which might end up as an iracing setup but may also not.

Was going to go with the CSL DD 8Nm + V3 pedal set as its at a good price currently when bought with a wheel - but am not sure how compatible some of the wheels are with the PS5 and GT7 so need some help.

I'm keen on a do it all kinda wheel to start with (as in GT, F1, rally and drift) but need confirmation that I can map the buttons fully on the wheels. I'd rather not have to use my PS5 controller as much as I can avoid it.

Looking specifically at the following - but open to recommendations!

Clubsport RS

Will the shift lights work in GT7? Can I program all of the buttons ?

Can I program the buttons and will that FunkySwitch be usable in GT7?

Podium R300

Can I program the buttons? Is it realistic/usable to use the secondary paddles as handbrake controls for drifting and rally driving?

I may also end up geting the McLaren GT3 V2 wheel to see how I like that style specifically for GT driving.

Same goes here - Are all of those buttons programmable in GT7 and is this a usable wheel?

Lots of questions - thanks in advance.

For GT7, need to pick DD Pro 8Nm (compatible with PS) or bump to DD+. McLaren V2 wheel is compatible with GT7/PS, and can map buttons exceptions to center rotary dials. It's not natively optioned in GT7, but instead have to use Fanatec GT DD Pro wheel to map buttons. Good luck!

  • I did get excited there and only realised after I posted that the CSL was PC only.

So I'll need the DD Pro base.

Or are you saying all of those other wheels need the GT DD Pro wheel to map their buttons? (in which case I need to buy the whole DD Pro set including poxy looking wheel and pedal set I don't want). I don't see a way to buy the GT wheel separately...

You're right DD Pro base for PS5. (or DD+ which is newer, higher Nm, but more expensive)

As for the wheels, I'm fairly sure all Fanatec wheels are compatible with all Fanatec bases, just need to make sure QR1/Lite or QR2 connection types are matching between the base and the wheel.

For GT7 specific, PlayStation x, you can select any wheels with "PS Ready" symbol on website and it should work for PS.

** I should point out that I only have McLaren V2 and Formula V2.5 wheel, so I don't have personal experience on all other wheels.

You do Not need the official GT DD Pro wheel to play GT7. However, not all wheels are pre button mapped in GT7 game menu. So in GT7 game = 1) you'll select GT DD Pro wheel in GT7 game option, but 2) map buttons on the wheel you are using to match GT DD Pro. In the wheel manual, button maps are provided. It's a bit confusing but you'll get it once you do it first time. But again, you do not need official GT DD Pro wheel to play GT7.

As for the pedals, as long as it is Fanatec pedal, which will plug into the DD Pro base, you can use for PS/GT7.

I use McLaren V2 wheel, leave expensive and comfortable... however, it won't work well for drifting

Fanatec forum is broken so I can't attach images to help you.
