Do you really need a handbrake for rally racing?

New to rally and having a blast. Got Dirt 5, WRC 10, and Dirt Rally 2.0 from Steam sale.

What am I missing without a handbrake?

It's great to hear you're diving into rally racing with such a solid lineup of games! We totally get that a handbrake would take your experience to the next level, especially for those hairpin turns and drift-heavy sections. It adds a whole new layer of control and realism that really enhances the fun. If you’re looking for that extra edge, a handbrake could be a game changer for your setup! Best, your Fanatec team.

handbrake used usually only for 2 tiers, what allows rotate car faster in corner

so yes by default you to may need handbrake, because regular brakes cant todo that what handbrake does

  • Dirt rally 1 and 2

FWD cars: don’t know, don’t drive them

4WD cars: Handbrake is quite useful for all kind of turns, but mostly for hairpins and tight corners. Using HB with 4wd cars on loose surfaces is quite easy and car behavior is predictable, so your speed will increase. Not so useful on asphalt.

RWD cars: rarely needed, maybe on really tight hairpins on loose surfaces, when you understeer because of too much speed. Car oversteer induced by HB is quite unpredictable, so I rarely use it. RWD cars respond much better to weight shifting and trail braking to oversteer through corners.

  • Got a lot of respect for anybody who can master everything at once.

Until I get a hand brake, thought maybe moving brake bias to rear maybe 25/75 might help on tight corners to cause oversteer rotation.

Also have a center button on the PBMR to assign as brake since would be easier to use with a spinning steering wheel.

  • most off handbrakes in market does not actually simulate the real handbrake tho.
