Question regarding CSW 2.5 and Formula 2.5 compatibility

As the title already describes im wondering on your guys experience regardig the compaitibility of two above mentioned hardware devices.

Anyone using this combo and maybe also was successfull in installing the latest firmware updates on the wheel?

Im asking this as fanatecs support team is not helping me properly and making things more difficult.

Long story short, i had a wheel which went into firmware bootloop and wouldnt update, got asked to send it back which i did, on my orders a new RMA device apparead and now support tells me the wheel isnt compatible with the wheelbase i have, hence the issue ....

Thought the same, also the Wheel worked on it, so why would their own support team "lie" then?

Which would even be more interesting is if someone successfully updated their wheel to teh newest FW with a csw 2.5

maybe it not fully support yet the latest firmware, it looks that dd1/2 and even csl dd have some issues with that

  • Could be, but the whole support process is a disaster, here a snippet from my reddit post, hoping fanatec/corsair might reply to this here and give me some feedback:

    #################

So i had an issue with my Formula Wheel 2.5 on the CSW 2.5 which wouldnt update and keeps going into a firmware bootloop everytime i try to update, however hardwarewise it worked fine.

I opened a ticket half a year ago which i never got a response for, so about 2 month ago i opened a new one thinking new corsairs management = new support.

An this is where the (not so) fun starts.

New ticket, didnt hear anything for a month, then corsair replied and told me theyre still working on it, short time later my ticket gets updated asking me to send back my wheel with the wheel adapter.

Quickly did as asked and sent it back, that was 3 weeks ago, again no response for 1 week.

Then i receive an update in my orders telling me that my "order is being dispatched" free of charge, which got me thinking they RMA'ed it and sent me a new one - Green new, Red Initial Order as seen in the picture:

Again no response or shiptment tracking for 2 weeks so i ask again if everything went fine or UPS had some issue as i didnt receive any tracking number.

This is the response i got:

So youre telling me that the Wheel that is listed on YOUR website as "compatible" with CSW 2.5 in fact isn´t, that you knew that prior and still let me sent back the wheel and prepared an RMA "out of fun" or what was the order about?

I always stood behind fanatec and i really like the products but now i get why people are getting mad.

So what now, should I just ask getting it back, should i make a fuss out of it? I mean if they update it and then send it back im fine with it, but i feel like thats not what they do.

  • Under EU rules, if the goods you buy turn out to be faulty or do not look or work as advertised, the seller must repair or replace them at no cost. If this is impossible or the seller cannot do it within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience to you, you are entitled to a full or partial refund.

  • but had to say that CSW is kind off old product. there is a reason why by default it discontinued, it's not even a Direct drive what by default is better

  • I get its discontinued, but currently theres no reason for me to upgrade and the wheel itself worked fine as it was promised on the website.

The fact that firmware Upgrades for whatever reason wouldnt be possible (as mine was still on stock FW 30 sth and were on 42 now?!) on a CSW wasnt mentioned. Don´t get me wrong, Im not hating on them, i like their products, but this would be considered false advertising then, wouldnt it?

I mean people are very split on their opinions as from an upgrade to a dd from a csw so its no thought for me to do at this point.

Most threads and reviews ive seen so far mentioned it isnt worth unless you go for CS DD which is too expensive as an "upgrade"

  • yes, its called a "false advertising" if they say in web page that it works but in reality they customer support tell that it's not supported.

The Formula V2.5 wheel is fully supported by the CSW V2.5. In terms of Firmware and overall compatibility it is just a regular Formula V2 which is available since 2018 where the CSW V2.5 was still sold and no Fanatec DD was on the market yet so of course the wheel in general is compatible even with this old "Legacy" Base.

So it is not false advertising.

It is a false statement from the support team for whatever reason, most likely "just" a mistake by one individual support agent who might not know better.

  • yes, to think that myself as well, that maybe customer support fully not aware everything.

but what about that never version off v2.5 ? the one what have different version number than this 47

  • Even if he has a new M-chip based variant of the wheel with Firmware 0.3.5.0 or 1.0.2.0 instead of 47 which might have firmware issues with the base, this does not change the fact that the wheel in general is compatible with the CSW V2.5. It is simply a false statement to say that the Formula V2.5 wheel is not compatible with the CSW V2.5 base.

  • Thanks Maurice, that actually helps me lift the confusion a bit.

Im not expecting Fanatec to support the CSW 2.5 forever, at some point it just wont be able to work with new stuff anymore as now seen with the new quick release adapter which cant be modified for the csw 2.5 to work.

THe last picture i made before sending it back was this one, does it tell sth about the M-chip based situation?

  • Update:

Corsair Staff got back to me quickly thanks to Moderators, they even tried calling me (sadly i was at work).

Since i couldnt be reached that way one of their staff members explained everything.

To keep it short: I was given wrong information, probably internal missunderstanding, Wheel and base are indeed compatible, symptoms indicate a faulty firmware since beginning, RMA has been processed, ill get a new wheel and adapter and asked to check everything.

Im honestly quite happy its almost resolved and still stand by fanatec products.
