APM - Binding handbrake on left & right analogue paddles / mapping both paddles for the same action
I'm using the APM on a Formula V2 wheel for Dirt Rally 2. I'd like to map both analogue paddles for the handbrake.
I came across this in a Reddit post - but haven't got it to work as I can't find the device preset that I edited in step 6 - the game only gives me a few DD1 options which aren't the same in the actionmaps.
"In game you can bind handbrake only on left or right paddle, with this simple tutorial, you can bind it on both paddles. Note, that all wheel inputs will be reseted to default.
- Go to steamapps\common\DiRT Rally 2.0\input\actionmaps
- Find your wheel preset file, f.e. for Thrustmaster T300 RS it is "tm_t300_rs.xml"
- Make a copy of it and move the the copy elsewhere (this is your backup)
- Open the original in notepad and find <action name="handbrake">
- Make another copy of the line below it and change numbers to wheel button number minus 1, f.e. wheel button number of my left paddle is 1 and right paddle is 2, so in this file, it will be number 0 and 1. It used to look similar to this (x is the previous button number):
<action name="handbrake"> <axis name="di\\\\\\\_button\\\\\\\_x" /> </action>
And now it should look like this:
<action name="handbrake"> <axis name="di\\\\\\\_button\\\\\\\_0" /> <axis name="di\\\\\\\_button\\\\\\\_1" /> </action>
6. Save it. Open game, go to Options & extras -> input -> "wheel name", f.e. Thrustmaster T300RS, right click on it, press "Load device Preset", choose your preset (mine is Thrustmaster T300 RS).
7. Optional - Open wheel input settings and bind "Gear up" and "Gear down" to something else. (This isn't necessary as the APM has gear shift paddles).
8. Done."
Perhaps a Fanalab setting in the Tuning Menu ACP section to mirror the paddles??
Comments
vjoy 2.1.8 and FreePie
and use mapping like you want
Thanks. So would that be use both of them or one of them??
And any tips for using them? I find once one gets to GitHub, one is expected to have the knowledge of a programmer.
Hope your getting it sorted out.
However sounds like you could be injured using a butterfly type wheel for rally games especially with paddle shifters swinging around like daggers☠️
I got a round R330 (no paddles) that I use with a ClubSport shifter for rally games myself.
Hey Colin, thanks for sharing! while the method you referenced is intriguing, Fanatec hardware, including the APM, doesn’t currently support native mirroring of analogue paddles for the same action like handbraking in game. You might explore custom mapping via FanaLab, but compatibility with Dirt Rally 2.0 for this specific function may vary. For deeper technical insights, if that doesn’t work, we recommend reaching out to our support team for further guidance or tips from other users who’ve had similar setups. Let us know if we can assist further! Best, your Fanatec team.
