Podium Hub/Base/Rim compatibility
Hi everyone,
I'm new to the Fanatec ecosystem but just purchased the Podium DD2 wheelbase during the black friday deal. I'm now looking for a suitable wheel rim, but am very confused about the compatibility. I tried to order the Podium Porsche 911 GT3 wheel, but once in my shopping card the webpage claims the following:
According to your order history, the selected Steering Wheel Podium Hub is not compatible with one or more of your purchased Wheel Base Podium Wheel Base DD2.
According to your order history, the selected Steering Wheel Podium Wheel Rim Porsche 911 GT3. Cup Leather is not compatible with one or more of your purchased Wheel Base Podium Wheel Base DD2.
According to your order history, the selected Steering Wheel Podium Button Module Endurance is not compatible with one or more of your purchased Wheel Base Podium Wheel Base DD2.
According to your order history, the selected Steering Wheel Podium Advanced Paddle Module is not compatible with one or more of your purchased Wheel Base Podium Wheel Base DD2.
Is this correct? It sounds odd to me that the Podium Base is incompatible with the Podium Hub/Button Module/Pedal Module/Wheel Rim.
It also claims similar incompatibility with e.g. ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module , is ClubSport not supported by the DD2 either? What is compatible then?
Comments
Most likely because the DD2 has QR2 and podium hub for wheel only comes with QR1 at the moment.
Not sure about that. The DD2 I ordered has the QR1 pre-installed, so it should work as long as I don't install the QR2 base-side upgrade kit (that comes with my order for free but of course, I don't need to use it).
Scroll to the bottom for compatibility. And as of right now, like MadDog-IC mentioned. Double check you have the QR you need. If you ordered DD2 Black Friday and you get this wheel you'll be all setup for QR1.
But I would suggest you get a QR2 wheel side for your first wheel and install all of that now since you're new to the ecosystem. It will prevent you from buying multiple wheels and having to upgrade them all at once. Plus QR2 is really nice.
not sure but fanatec usually only supply one or the other, when they say you get the QR2 base side for free it means that the QR1 will not be supplied at all, look at pictures in description of the BF sale DD2 and they are all QR2.
Scratch all that it does say QR1 installed and QR2 supplied as well.
Yeah, that's exactly why I'm so confused. Since it comes with both the QR shouldn't be the problem. So I'm wondering if I'm missing something else that makes these incompatible. Maybe the webpage is just being confused, but I don't want to drop 500+ Euros and then end up with something I can't use.
lol yeah. It is confusing right now. But Base Side they are sending QR2 upgrade kit for all older models i believe.
Wish they would supply me a QR2 base side for free to bring my DD1 up to standard and I purchase the wheel side QR2, but that is wishfull thinking.
I would like to purchase the same wheel you are talking about purchasing and with QR2 wheel side, but a bit ritch for me. I see no reason for the incompatability your describing.
Who knows, there are still a few Black Friday deals coming up, maybe that's part of it. Anyway, thanks for your input, I guess the webpage is just being confused then.
Is this the builder? or your cart? Because I tried to use the builder once and it's garbage. I think i read that the builder is unreliable. And not worth using. But that was like a year ago.
That was in the cart, never used the builder.
I'm in the same situation, can someone suggest a cheap wheel for the dd2 ?
Personally. I think this is the best all rounder they make for cheaper: https://fanatec.com/us-en/steering-wheels/clubsport-steering-wheel-rs?_gl=1*ki0k6w*_up*MQ..*_ga*OTMzMzg0NjI1LjE3MDA1ODIzNjA.*_ga_Q6VYC4JPVE*MTcwMDU4MjM1OC4xLjEuMTcwMDU4MjM3MS4wLjAuMA..
Only issue is the Rev lights stick out.
This is the next best all rounder: https://fanatec.com/us-en/steering-wheels/clubsport-steering-wheel-bmw-gt2-v2?_gl=1*ki0k6w*_up*MQ..*_ga*OTMzMzg0NjI1LjE3MDA1ODIzNjA.*_ga_Q6VYC4JPVE*MTcwMDU4MjM1OC4xLjEuMTcwMDU4MjM3MS4wLjAuMA..
Alcantara gets gross after time though.
There are cheaper wheels than that, but if you're going to get DD2 you likely should get a wheel that can handle the torque.
Malte: I went back and looked for the builder. It looks like they removed it.
Thanks for the suggestions, nono you are right, cheap but that can handle the torque of dd2. I was looking at the CSL Elite Steering Wheel McLaren GT3 V2 | Fanatec, it says that with the QR1 Wheel-Side (ClubSport Quick Release Adapter) it can handle the torque. Do you think it's a good wheel ?
