DD+ Clunking when turning wheel

Hey,

So I received my full setup last week, first time sim racing, however when I turn the wheel I’m getting a clunk sound from the base that can be felt through the wheel. The sound and feel is present whether the wheelbase is turnt on or off.

It seems that the sound and feel only occur when turning right just past center, when i detach the wheel i can freely turn the base qr2 and it doesn't always make a sound, i'm unable to replicate it as easily but when i reattach the wheel and turn it clicks right away.

I have removed the wheel side qr2 and reinstalled it just to eliminate that. I’m assuming that this isn’t a normal sound or feeling. Has anyone got any idea as to what and where this is coming from and if there’s a solution that doesn’t include an rma?

Sounds like an issue with tha ball-bearing.

    Would start RMA Process immediately

  • Thats strange, i had a similar problem with my CS DD. The only difference is, that i had these clunking sound in two specific positions when i turn the wheel to the left and also to the right from the middle axis.

In my case, i couldn´t also hear the sound when i´ve detached the wheel and turn the shaft by hand. But if you push to the shaft from the upper side while turnig the sound was hearabel. I guess, the weight of the wheel is one point to keep in mind.

Long story short, i had to send my base back to fanatec and got a brand new one delivered two weeks later.

  • Yeah it's strange, if i turn the wheel just past center ill get the sound and feel, if i keep the wheel on the right side it wont make any further sounds until i turn back left towards center and then begin to turn right again. Seems as if its a small window where it actually happens.

I've opened a support ticket regardless and awaiting to see what Fanatec say. The base works great otherwise, although it does have a slight hissing sound when up close to it, similar to a tea pot, but cannot be heard with a headset on.

  • In terms of noise, I think I have the same problem as you. Does it sound like the wind blowing under a door

  • Yeah its very similar to that, sounds like a quiet tea kettle going off. Cant hear it unless up close but theres definitely a slight hiss. Doesn't bother me at all and wouldnt send it back just for that if you was considering.

  • unfortunately yes because the noise will intensify like at home and now it can even be felt in my steering wheel and yet I have only played for a few hours

  • Sorry for the late reply, but sounds are awfully close to your previous issue! I'm hoping to hear back from support this week to be able to get it sorted. Its very noticable when fighting the car as well and being in and out of the zone where it clonks, can really feel it through the wheel.

  • I also made a Sunday ticket which I have since reissued but unfortunately have had no response until now

and sorry if the translation of my messages is bad

  • Let's hope we he hear back sometime soon to get it sorted then!

  • unfortunately still nothing and 5 days since I can use my base, scandalous

  • Yeahhh, So I raised a support ticket a month ago today and got the email notifying me to expect an agent to get back to me within 7 days with shipping details/instructions and ticket number........ NOTHING YET?! 10th of Oct submitted and it is now the 11th of November 2024.

CS DD+ wheel base clicks and clonks when turning without wheel attached and even when powered off, so it is hardware issue. On a seperate note My shifter has terrible trouble with electromagnetic interference and mis shifts. I can confirm that the problem is 100% static build up as I have tried all suggested trouble shooting known. I have not included the shifter in my RMA request but I hope I can amend that if support ever get back to me and then maybe, just maybe I will get some LUCK in the hardware lottery like I believe so many have. I paid good money for this stuff and all in one purchase and I have actually spent good money on trouble shooting this shifter and I just want what I paid for. All my Fanatec gear firmware is current and up to date. Someone at Fanatec Please help make this good. I realy like this stuff when it works well and it feels like solid stuff and I know that only those like myself having these issues need to post like this and that we are just a small number compared to the number of customers with satisfaction. So Im gonna be hopefull that I will be one of them soon.
