Unusual Behaviors with Fanatec DD2 Wheelbase (Notchy Feeling and stationary jerking wheel)
Hi,
I have two questions about two different issues with a DD2 wheelbase running Driver 455 and the corresponding firmware. The wheel I’m using is a Formula 2.5X, but I’ve noticed these issues with other wheels as well.
1. When the base is powered off or even powered on but outside of a game, and when set to low force feedback (FFB), there is a rough, “notchy” feeling as if the magnets are catching. It doesn’t feel particularly smooth when rotating the wheel. Could this be normal? It’s strange nonetheless.

2. In iRacing, with GT3 cars and the Audi RS3 (front-wheel-drive) and almost every other car as well, when I come to a complete stop, whether in the pits or on the track, the wheel behaves strangely. While driving, the wheel stays straight and feels normal, but when stopped, it can suddenly jerk left or right, especially in a start scenario. It then becomes difficult to straighten, and if I release it, the wheel fully turns to one side, and I can only keep it straight by holding it.

This is absolutely not normal but a known hardware issue of some P DD units.
You need to contact the support to get the base repaired or exchanged.
most likely you have there stronger magnets than usually should be
I bought the base used about a month ago, and I found these things strange. So, I was right to think that it’s not normal…
about issue 2. have you try some other game? it could be game or car settings are not right
for example some games if there is suspension damage then it can also behave like this
I also tested it in ACC, and there, too, I noticed similar strange behavior when low FFB is set—such as unusual steering wheel movements—though not as pronounced as in iRacing. However, in iRacing, this occurs with multiple cars, on various tracks, and under different conditions, which is very disturbing.
As far as I know, the DD2 comes with a 5-year warranty? It was purchased on 12.07.2021.
Since I bought it used, I hope I can still claim the warranty.
Thank you for the confirmation.
So, are you saying that the base should spin without resistance even when it’s turned off?
its not that smooth, there still would be some resistance but it should not be by default like in your video
stronger magnets can hold little better the steering wheel at same place, just saying
The issue has nothing to do with too strong magnets. Root cause is a faulty chip on the PCBA of the motor which needs to be replaced to fix the cogging issue of affected bases.
but in his video the base is turned off ? how would that affect the problem?
or you talk about the iracing problem?
iracing problem whatever that is could come also if user use opposite ffb effect
in first video if he not like too strong magnets, then he may need new motor self, like this Axial Flux motor what t598 have
if he really want drive when base is turned off then t598 would be for him better option
DD2 is never meant for kids that you play with that 0 Nm, just saying
I don’t expect the feeling to be completely smooth, I just came here with a question: if you say it’s normal, then it’s totally fine, it doesn’t bother me at all. I just don’t really know what’s normal and what’s not with a DD2, because I’m new to it.
hard to say what is normal when base self is off, your magnets seems just little stronger at there, if you not like that then you may need a full motor replacement or exchanged. like Maurice tell
there is one thing what i forget ask , as you new, to you play high tongue mode or low mode? there is difference between those two
low mode acts more like it's csl dd and its allot weaker
I use high torque mode.
