The new standarDD: The CSL DD
So when I made the post on April 1st, not many people thought that a product like the Podium DD 0.5 could be true but in fact, aside from the name and the picture, everything was true.
YES it costs only 349,95 € (incl. VAT) / 349,95$ (excl. VAT).
YES it comes with a carbon fibre composite axis. This increases responsiveness and acceleration a lot.
YES it comes with the patented FluxBarrier™ technology allowing exceptional efficiency.
YES it is built by robots and this increases the quality and lowers the cost.
Yes, it’s real. We had some fun for April Fools, but we have indeed developed an all-new direct-drive wheel base for €349.95. Bringing this advanced technology to the CSL Series took a little more effort than cutting a Podium base in half, that’s for sure.
This is nothing other than a complete game changer. There is little doubt that Direct Drive wheels are far superior to any belt or gear-driven wheels out there. We wanted to make this new technology available for the mass market without taking any shortcuts in quality or performance.
A key factor is the brand-new, 100% custom motor. It was developed in Germany specifically for sim racing, with patented FluxBarrier™ technology achieving remarkable efficiency for its size. The force feedback detail and performance is unlike anything else close to this price point.
Up to 8 Nm peak torque.
With the standard power supply, peak torque is 5 Nm, this is almost the level of a CSL Elite Wheel Base. But there is also the Boost Kit 180, an optional larger power supply unlocking the full 8 Nm.
The CSL DD uses an improved, automotive-grade, all-aluminium quick release. This component is user-exchangeable, ready for the transition to the all-new QR2 system (coming soon). And of course we are working on more DDs, including PS5 licensed DDs, as well.
DD is the way to go in all our product lines.
We will ship it in Q3 this year and pre-orders will open as soon as we have a reliable shipping date.

Thomas, you like teasing, do you? :P
When is the release of it?
The page seems to exist already since the URL https://fanatec.com/eu-en/racing-wheels-wheel-bases/wheel-bases/csl-dd doesn't give a 404 but a "This product is no longer available" so i guess it's only a question of publishing the page ;)
Me? 😁
yes! YOU! :P
3rd teaser regarding this CSL DD.
People on reddit are freaking out right now 😄
The suicide pact is getting bigger.😂
Everybody who was looking for a CSL and couldn't buy one because of the stock issues + everybody who just managed to get a CSL elite recently 😂
Would be fun if we have seen the wheelbase many times already and it's the exact version of this one in the video, https://youtu.be/p-kPZwUF4KM?t=287
And luckily it isn't the successor of the DD2 so i don't write to much off on it when i finally made the choice of keeping the DD2 or the SC2 as my permanent wheelbase... maybe i even sell both and get a CSL DD because the screen on the current Podium DD's is useless and i learned that i'm never ever ever going to use more than 70% of torque the DD2 can deliver so a CSL DD with the right specs might just do it for 95% of the people.
Did anyone know the time of the presentation is ....... Cause the teaser said is today! and it maybe looks like fools day! let's wait and prepare our credits cards.........
I knew one day my paint by numbers skills would help me out ;)
Fanateaser DD 0.5 :D
Awesome paint skills.
OK Thomas, lunch is over, fresh coffee is on the table, I am ready for some online shopping... shoot!!!
Hmmm CSL DD. So it's a step lower than a CSW 2.5. Lots of plastics and such. So I bet there will come a CSW DD as well. CSL 5NM DD. CSW 9/10NM DD. And then there's DD1 and DD2. Guess I will keep my CSW 2.5 a little longer and wait for reviews of the CSL DD and CSW DD in the future.
i guess CSL DD plastic 7-8 nm csw dd metal 10-12 nm.
ClubSport universal hub is gone on Fanatec site. ClubSport 2.5 wheelbase is also gone. CSL bases also. Probably this will be something instead of them.
I don't think it will be as plastic fantastic as the CSL is now. When using a direct drive motor the generated force is located in a way more compact area then how it's done now with the CSL where you have a belt that drives a pulley.
I think they could get away with some plastic but not as much as they do now with the CSL, you would need some kind of sturdy construction to hang that motor in even if it only produces less than 8Nm of torque.
For me no problem with the construction of the base more important is if it will work with PS and Xbox platforms since is an entry-level and for people who don't have the budget to get a Gaming PC and high-end products, so hope Thomas looked the way I do.
Damn...this waiting is killing me :D
Looking forward to a new QR being introduced here!
Same! but it's possible that the new QR is introduced later on and not together with the new wheel base.
All we can do is hope...
CSL DD is a dream! I hope something well built (not all over crap plastic), PS4/5 compatible with 7-8 NM. Hopefully, please a F1 CSL bundle package already today 21.4.2021. :)
I wonder if there will be a bundle for consoles available including wheel and pedals? 🤞
This will be shown at a later stage. But the QR will be exchangeable so you can easily upgrade later.
When we will have more details for the new StandarD? :)
This is good news for those of us with multiple wheels already.
Hopefully this releases in the US at the same time as Europe, unlike the Thrustmaster sf1000.
This is actually amazing if it's a cheaper Direct Drive for a reasonable price. Would totally trade in my CSL Elite for this!
I pray that this has PS5 compatibility, it would be an instant buy for me.
It's a shame I bought my CSL Elite not even a year ago and it's only slightly used - I wish there was some kind of option to trade it in Fanatec's website for the new DD. Now I'm regretting my CSL Elite purchase just a little bit because of the new DD already coming out :(
That's good news! Thanks Thomas!
From Thomas's video and the investor guidance comments regarding launching a wheel to go with GT7 on Ps5 (originally planned for first 1/2 2021, now pushed back to 2022) I believe that any new wheel have a console compatibility.
The timing of this CSL DD wheel base matches the original GT7 release date.
Announcement of an announcement or we still getting more info on 21.04?
