Indeed plus a so called "Loyal Customer" could just as easy be a Scalper that buys one (or more) to re-sell via other platforms to make a little profit.
That is so true. That is why in addition to a purchase history, Fanatec should also limit 1 per account with purchase history. In the recent Facebook thread by Fanatec, there was this guy wanting to buy to 10 and also tagging his friend that probably wants to buy 10. If it is for a legitimate resale business, they should contact Fanatec directly. However, I think these D-Bags are thinking of scalping them.
Limiting to one per account and having purchase history would definitely slow scalpers down. It wouldn’t be a perfect fix, but it should help for sure.
limiting pre orders to existing customers makes no sense from a business stand point. Giving them a few hours is reasonable to reward loyalty, however you can’t alienate such a large majority of the market especially on their entry level wheel base.
Imo also the best solution to slow down scalpers, no1 needs more than one base for himself. Buying for friends would be another story, but tbh those people could pre order themselves.
I appreciate what you're saying and 100% agree that scalpers are a scourge, as the PS5 launch has shown, but it's not fair for someone like myself to be blocked from pre-ordering for a time. I've never had a wheel for a console before and am hoping to get a CSL DD when a PlayStation version is launched. Why should I be prevented from doing so just because I'll be a first time Fanatec customer?
100% agree that Scalpers are evil, but who is a loyal customer? A customer that already bought a DD1 could just as easy be a Scalper, or some one that bought already more in the past and already has an account. A scalper doesn't need to be a new customer that creates a new account to buy something.
Plus you will exclude a lot of customers that are most likely are the real customer for this product. A loyal customer with a DD1 or DD2 or maybe even a CSW 2.5 is normally not really an expected buyer for this new CSL DD wheel... more likely that a CSL DD buyer is new to Fanatec or currently uses an older Fanatec CSW base or an older CSL base.
I don't see how scalpers could possibly cause the same trouble with this wheel? From what I understand, there is only one way to get Fanatec's products. So if a scalper buy's an entire shipment by using a ton of accounts. A real customer would simply just get in line and wait for the product they want directly from Fanatec. No need to pay a scalpers mark-up, and no need to scour the internet with a bot, trying to score newly replenished stocks. Order it direct from the source and show some patience. If a scalper situation arises, that person (group) would end up with room full of wheel bases (or what ever) and no one to buy it.
Maybe I don't get it. Could someone please explain to me how scalpers can screw this up?
They mean that scalpers will order almost order the whole first batch, creating a shortage and until Fanatec can produce the 2nd batch, they will find those people that cant wait for the second batch and sell at a prenium.
The official agents, resellers and affilietes also buy from Fanatec and they have an arangement on the price they must sell (for example and IF I remember correctly the affielietes only get a discount and their profit is the discount they get).
Rest of resellers etc again it depends on the deal they might have with Fanatec...
I for one will probably jump at this offer and buy it as soon as it is released, and with me I guess many more thousands of sim racers worldwide so this is my main worry atm as well looking at how consumer goods are distributed nowadays during Rona times (just look at GPU's or PS5's for example). Scalpers are the work of the devil haha
Also will the website crash when the DD wheel becomes available for order? :D
What will the options be for mounting this to an Al extrusion rig? I see the T-nut slots in the heatsink for the motor but will there be an accessory option straight from fanatec for mounting the motor to a chassis? similar to the podium mounting bracket but perhaps at a more affordable price than $250?
Just about every rig I know of have the standard 3-hole bottom Fanatec mount. If you want to side mount it using t-nuts, I heard this unit is slightly narrower than a DD1/2 (confirmation needed).
I haven't yet seen the bottom of this unit, but to me just from the side profile it seemed as though the bottom was t-nut channel too? I have my own custom built Al extrusion rig so I'll need to figure out some way of mounting it, do people sell baseplates for extrusion rigs?
Yes. I believe so. Being a t-nut channel, we may be able to get an inch or two of forward/backward adjustment. Just make sure not to put the t-nuts into the end panels. 😂

that would be very unfortunate for anyone trying to get into sim racing and is lacking a set up
True. But, the "Loyal Customer" advance pre-order should go to accounts that have a purchase history.
If that’s confirmed by Fanatec, I’d make sure to order my pedals or wheel rim ahead of time
Totally understand that point of view too.
This. This is my feeling. Trying to get back into it. Struggling to even buy a second hand CSL Elite.
And regarding scalpers, is it possible to limit one per credit card, or shipping address? I'm not sure what the scalper solution is.

I think limiting the CSL DD pre-orders to existing customers only and to one per account would help a bunch.

Would be a nice idea to give loyal customers a chance of preordering for 2 or 3 days before all others.
Scalpers are a plague. They should be kept away from buying as long as possible.

Totally blown away by this! Was trying to get a CSL Elite but is out of stock in Europe, guess I'll wait for this! Game changer!

Greetings,

I can't wait for the PS4 CSL DD to be announced, I've just bought the PS4 Podium F1 DD instead.... oh well!
Some were funny,😁 but no actual answers 😏
this was NOT the Q&A Video which is still coming soon!
FANATEC?...1600 euros 5 years ago (only) and..... never again.
Clubsport wheel base V2 "burned" 6 times.... NEVER again.

I have never heard of such wheel.
