Wheel buttons stop working

I have a CSL Elite wheel base and a Formula V2 steering wheel. I will be racing and suddenly all the buttons and the paddle shifters on the wheel stop working. I can still steer, but no other controls on the wheel work. The only way I can get everything working again is to remove the wheel from the base and then put it back on, then everything works again.
Has anyone else had this problem?
