Is this normal on a Wheel Base with Warranty?
Today they finally answered me from Fanatec, to clarify the issue of shipping my Podium DD1 PS4 wheel base to see what's wrong and investigate what it has. A base that has only one year and 4 months of time, that is under 100% warranty and that I need to send it to be repaired, because apparently, a problem appeared in the WQR module when I simply updated it, incompressibly.
The fact is that they sent me the RMA for shipping today, with the instructions, and everything was clear, but in both emails they are treating me as if I didn't have a guarantee. I have to pay for the shipping, they have not given me any label to send it by UPS, and they tell me that when I see it, they will tell me what it has, the cost and then I have to decide.
Is this normal? I have told you many times that it is under warranty, why do they treat me as if I didn't have it? Why have they only given me the instructions without sending me the shipping labels? I don't understand, if it's under warranty, they're supposed to take care of everything. No?I don't understand what is happening with
Fanatec, with this super brand, which is really giving me a very big headache.
Do you see this normal?
Comments
did you purchased it directly from Fanatec? Are you the original buyer?
So i bought mine and the ad said something "the last base you'll ever need" with a 5 year warranty. Got it on the first time they had a DD1 deal in Dec 2022. But my warranty says it's expired... Seems like the old warranty didn't make it to any sale prices...
well if you are Europe citizen, you to have 2 year minimum guarantee what is regulated by Europe law, fanatec is not a law. if you feel they hurt you, you can sue them.
if they say its not possible fix or something like this, then you have also right to demand full refund when product is still under warranty
The 5 year warranty was exclusive to the Podium DD2 and never applied to the Podium Racing Wheel F1 Bundle which had a warranty of "just" 2 years in EU and 1 year in the rest of the world (warranty times given by law).
The regular Podium DD1 standalone Base had a warranty of 3 years worldwide with an option to buy a warranty extension of 2 more years, but this also never applied for the F1 Bundle due to extended warranty was only valid for the base and not the included wheel, hence no warranty extension was offered for this Bundle so the Bundle always only had the default warranty time given by law.
As you bought the US Bundle, the warranty time shown in your account is correct and indeed expired.
Hi Maurice,
correct me if I'm wrong, but at least EU customers that bought the Podium F1 bundle still have a warranty of 3 years valid for the base and default warranty of 2 years for the wheel, right?
That is what your EU product page says:
Good Morning,
It is purchased from a Simracing office store, but not directly from Fanatec.
From what I see, you bought it directly from Fanatec, right??? This one was purchased from a SImracing store in Barcelona.
Some people told me that it had a 5-year warranty, but even if it was only 2 years, it only has one year and four months... Not even two years
Well then, this is under warranty. This foundation was purchased from another person, who bought it in a store a year and 4 months ago, I have the invoice. He is only one year and 4 months old. What I don't understand is why they act, as if I didn't have it, I don't know if they think the compromise is defective or I did something wrong with it. The Wheell base worked perfectly and very well until the update, you already know Mauricio.
I have consulted the shipping with DHL and the price for shipping to Germany is 221 Euros
that is huge amount money, and im assuming its not even your fault that product get damaged by some electronics failure
you sure is a 221 eurs tho? and not 22,1 eurs?
By law the warranty covers only the original purchaser.
However, Fanatec, at its discretion, can also enforce the guarantee for a second buyer.
Again by law, it is the seller who covers the warranty, so if you bought it in a store, you should contact the store. The manufacturer, at its discretion, can take care of the warranty instead of the seller.
But it is at its discretion, so you should explain to Fanatec what the situation is to try to enforce the guarantee.
Furthermore, I know that Fanatec, like other companies operating all over the world, only applies the guarantee if the product comes from the geographical area of sale. That is, you cannot request a guarantee in Europe for an American product, for example.
I really don't know who makes these laws and for whose benefit.
because first of all, if you bought something from someone and he gives you an invoice, warranty confirmation, then it is absolutely normal that the manufacturer has to repair, replace the device if it is within the warranty period, whether he is willing to do it or not. that's how it should be by law. it is obvious that the laws are made for the big ones and for the small citizens the law is deliberately broken with the wrong laws. where is the justice?
and secondly, I also don't know why there is a difference in the classification of 2 years for EU citizens vs. 1 year for the rest of the world, the USA, etc.
if someone has a smart answer, where and why are such laws created?
Yes, yes, that's what it cost, I put it on the website, it seems outrageous to me.
I have seen on the SEUR website that it could be 30 euros, if that is the amount, I will send it and pay it myself, I don't want to wait one or two weeks again now
I think completely the same, I just don't see the difference, the product is still under warranty, I don't know what the problem is.
i have question, tho what is happening your device ? maybe there is some easy like stupid fuse burn out because off constant shutting device off and on
Maurice is likely right. And I didn't understand the extension. I bought F1 bundle from Fanatec site. And if you read the DD1 page as it is now it states "UP TO" 5 years. I guess I didn't read the fine print. And i don't remember any extension popups. I was likely excited to see the deal or something and read the warranty ad part wrong. And yeah. I am fairly sad about it. Mines not broken atm, but now that i know this... something will happen.
Is the base listed in your account, if so, what does it say about the warranty period?
I just had an RMA with my steering wheel and in the first mail it also said that I would have to pay for the repair myself, I pointed out again directly that the device still has warranty according to my account and the invoice, whereupon I got right in the next mail and my steering wheel was exchanged for me free of charge. maybe someone just made a mistake and got it wrong, so just ask again in a friendly way
You absolutely must do this, contact them in a friendly manner and point out that the warranty period has not yet ended. Attach proof of purchase. In addition to being very busy, it may not actually appear that you purchased the product from them.
Hello Allan,
Here I explain what happened to me and how it happened to me.

And this is where Maurice, on page 4, hits the nail on the head about what has happened...

Don't update just in case, but if you want to update in case the same thing happens to you and you are under warranty, better...
Right now this is at that point friend, I have sent you the email saying that it is still under warranty, but the Wheel base was purchased in a store in Barcelona. Right now I'm waiting to see what Fanatec tells me so I know what to do. According to what Fanatec answers me, if they tell me that I have to pay everything, I will send the base to the store where I bought it, and they will process the guarantee. I have already spoken with them today, and there will be no problem with it, but I will have to pay the shipping to their store, because it was purchased in Barcelona and I am in Ibiza.
In the message above, I explain everything. That's what I told you, that he is only a year and 4 months old, I am waiting for your response. But they are very slow, normally in the last month, they only write me one email a week and on Mondays, nothing more, one message a week......
i see, you live at place where is no direct road, that may cost extra yeah for delivery
have you asked from ups instead? you to have there that aswell
I am waiting for the message from Fanatec about the shipment, since the product has a warranty and they have to take care of it. Otherwise, I will send it to the store where it was purchased, and have them process everything for the guarantee it has. They haven't answered me yet since Monday, as always. I will have a new message next week, they only write me one message a week....and that's how slow we go.
