I'm (hopefully) expecting the delivery of my CS DD, Formula V2.5, and CSL pedals this week, and I've been reading through the driver/firmware release notes, reading comments here and in the Wheel Base sub forum, and watching videos on the CS DD to learn more about the update process. I have three questions:
1) I understand running the latest firmware is usually best, but I know new sw/cal also come with their own gremlins. When I receive my CS DD base, would it be best to run the firmware it's delivered with out of the box and wait until 456 is available, or to update to 455 in the meantime? I'm alright running slightly bugged software if it prevents the base from "bricking" like I've seen in some posts.
2) If I do decide to update the CS DD base, are there any resources to learn about the process, and also, do any users have suggestions on how to make the process go smoothly? I've looked at the CS DD downloads page which contains the quick guide, but the guide references fanatec.com/manuals which has no existing manual for CS DD at this time. I also can't seem to find any video guides online.
3) Are there any other tips or tricks with new hardware such as making sure it's a USB 3.0 port, having specific order of operations, updating with/without wheel plugged in at first, rebooting everything + PC between updates, or am I just being superstitious?
Appreciate any insight, as I'm hoping to get many years of enjoyable, uninterrupted use out of my exciting new purchase!
Have owned since mid December. Always a little bit strange when trying to switch to Xbox mode. Often would have to unplug and replug, power on to get it to switch to Xbox mode. Otherwise worked fine.
Sold my other wheel base etc a few days ago to,a friend. Checked to make sure the CSL wheelbase firmware was up to date. Noted it needed to be updated to 455. Did so w no problems. Use a Mac computer w parallel for virtual machine for windows. Have never had an issue updating my windows based stuff, to include Fanatec gear, using windows 10 in virtual machine.
Decided to update my clubsport DD. Xbox universal hub v2, etc.
Updated all items.
Once updated, but without turning the power off, it allows switching from PC to Xbox mode, no problem.
Turn the power off and turn on again it becomes unresponsive to pushing the power button. Plug it back into the computer via usb etc and it states wheelbase is in firmware recovery mode.
Let it do its thing again. After it’s done it reboots itself, recognizes the device, able to tune settings, etc and also open firmware update link in Fanatec control panel. Turn it off, turn it back on again, same thing happens. Have to reinstall firmware.
Went into firmware update link, manually updated all devices. Same problem.
Removed 455 from windows. Downloaded 454, installed that driver package. Plugged in wheelbase etc and said again in firmware update mode. Updated, or downgraded really, all devices to 454.
Same issue still exists.
Have tried updating with all peripherals (wheel, pedals etc) disconnected.
Same thing happens.
Have ensured no other apps etc are running.
All operating system software etc is up to date, both for windows and for macOS.
Suggestions?
Fanatec customer service is crap. Ridiculous a 800 buck stops working after a month, after updating their supposedly bug fixed older drivers, firmware.
everything else works fine. Except the most critical item, the wheelbase. Utter junk. Please tell me u are working on a software solution for your defective hardware.
If it's working perfectly in PC mode that's a different problem and it is a bug in the driver, if you read back in the topic you could see that. Your option is to wait until 456 will be released (which will be next month according to Maurice) or downgrade back to 454.
Xbox Mode is not supposed to work on a PC, only on the Xbox.
However, from internal tests the fix for the Firmware issue that the Bases dont go into Xbox Mode anymore seems to be fixed and should be included in driver 456.

Which USB port are you referring to, the one on your PC or base?
Before installing the drivers, did you manually uninstall them from windows?
Thank you!

Log files from attempted and failed updates.
Total utter crap. One month old, updated firmware on this wheelbase like I updated previously w other wheelbase etc.
now it’s pretty much inoperative.
Clubsport elite v2 pedals
xbox universal hub v2
qrc2 (not lite)
everything else works fine. Except the most critical item, the wheelbase. Utter junk. Please tell me u are working on a software solution for your defective hardware.
Welcome to the club.
And since January 10 I have been trying to figure out what to do
If you follow my discussions, you can understand the arrogance of this company
And from the lack of preparation of its supports
I'm really disappointed.
It was a Christmas present to my son. I had to buy another steering wheel
I got him a trustmuster t248 it works perfectly even the display LEDs
Now I just have to wait for my return
I thought that spending more for such a manufacturer was an extra guarantee
But I was wrong.
. . . . .
. . .
I'm neither an expert nor affected with Fanatec, but the log has this line:
FCpl: Firmware Version WQR: 0.0.0.0 Status:0
My assumption is that your WQR is bricked and you need to RMA the base.
For me with driver 455 every work correctly on xbox console.
I have csl DD with wrc wheel qr1 and mclaren wheel qr1
I purchase My fanatec on october firmware 451 and update driver two times on regular procedure on Windows 10 and every time is worked fine.
Never had a problem.
Fantastic hardware for gaming, thanks fanatec.
You're a lucky man
I wish I had the same luck as you
Are you Italian?
Do you want to help me solve this pro blem?
How often do these driver and firmware’s get updated,we really need driver 456 to fix the Xbox issues
456 should be released next month.
Will it fix the CS DD freeze issue or is it still under investigating?
Still under investigation
Thanks Maurice. I hope it isn't caused by some hardware issue.
That’s good news, thanks for letting me know
hopefully the Xbox issues will be resolved
Hi, I have an RMA that responds to me every 7 days.
And I have the same problem as the friend you answered.
Suddenly, from one day to the next, it no longer recognizes xbox mode.
In PC mode it works perfectly.
The service asked me to check the shaft and screws of the steering wheel.
But everything looks ok.
So, what's wrong with my question?
It should be noted that at the time of the problem I had the 455 drivers.
I tried to do the various downgrades, but I didn't solve from 451 to 455.
Can you give me some advice?
Maurice Böschen says it's not a software problem but a hardware one.
But from the way the base works, it looks more like a software issue.
Thanks in advance.

My question was about a different issue.
Will this include the WRC podium PS5 sequential issue?
I think many people can confirm this.
Xbox mode is missing drivers from the device management panel.
That is, the computer only recognizes PC mode and PC comp mode.
Because it was installed well.
My problem is that even if you try to delete and reinstall nom it is rewritten fine.
Some lucky people found the xbox mode in the 451 and 454 software.
But I think they are old bases.
The problem of xbox mode not being rewritten on the new bases.
So I hope that the 456 driver contains this key otherwise they are bases to be returned to the sender.
Most likely no as the issue is still under investigation and was not being worked on yet AFAIK.
Xbox Mode is not supposed to work on a PC, only on the Xbox.
However, from internal tests the fix for the Firmware issue that the Bases dont go into Xbox Mode anymore seems to be fixed and should be included in driver 456.
Yes I know. Which doesn't work on the PC.
But from investigations carried out when you update the PC it also writes the Xbox drivers.
In my case it is not rewritten well. Also in bootleader.
This is relevant even if I connect directly to the xbox. Xbox doesn't recognize it.
Because the driver is missing at the base. regardless of the PC.
I hope the 456 driver works.
I also hope it is released soon. Thank you.
Firmware, not drivers.
Drivers are for PC. There are xbox drivers already on xbox.
Firmware is for hardware, and different from the driver
What you are updating is the wheelbase/wheel firmware - which does effect putting the wheelbase into xbox mode.
OK, clarified the difference between driver and firewall.
Can anyone tell me when the 456 firewall will be available?
Thank you very much.!!!
Which firewall?
The driver 456 should be available later this month if everything goes to plan.
I thinki by "firewall" he meant firmware.
Good morning.
I received an RMA yesterday to fix the problem.
Do you advise me to send the base or wait for the 456?
Thank you
You seem to have a totally different issue than the known Xbox issue. So yes, you should send the base to the support.
Ok thank you.
Appearance indication for sending
And I'll update you. .
