VAT
Anyone have any clue as to how prices etc are going to be affected in the UK now we have just brexited?? It’s going to be hard to figure out the final cost to us once the item reaches customs. I’m assuming fanatec aren’t going to be able to figure them out and charge accordingly

Update: Brexit and the Corona Pandemic
Fanatec always strives to be there for its community, and neither the latest corona developments nor the uncertainties brought on by Brexit will stop us from making the customer experience as uncomplicated as possible.
With the United Kingdom set to leave the European Union later this month, we understand many of you wonder what Brexit means for e-commerce, specifically when shopping in the EU. Despite the months of ambiguity, one thing is clear: Sales to and from the UK will be subject to new regulations, customs charges and/or VAT.
The situation has furthermore been exacerbated by the ongoing global pandemic, which recently has caused even more chaos after the discovery of the novel corona virus.
What does all this mean for customers shopping from the UK?

I'm was about to put an order in for £1048, including shipping....
Now I'm really put off... I don't want it landing on my doorstep with even more fees....
(UK)
Exactly why I asked, cause I bought a new wheel on the 1st and it never even occurred to me at the time, the wheel came up cheaper than advertised and I just assumed it was some kind of post Xmas discount, then I paid it, and then thought oh shit, it wasn’t a discount, there’s no VAT on it, so, I now have no idea how much customs duty will apply on it, how long it will be stuck in customs, how UPS will take the money etc etc
Blame the twats that voted for Brexit. All you can do now is suck it up - we are no longer part of the EU so this is how it is now.
I've tried to do some reading this evening on it.
Seems like everything will be subject to VAT. However, if the item is worth less than £135, this should be paid at point of sale. This doesn't align with Fanatec's pricing, as there is no VAT on anything site wide.
If your order is over £390 you will also be subject to duty, on top of the VAT. The bit I dont know is what duty code (and therefore %) will be applied.
Fanatec should help make this clear for us. I am either not going to order, or order half the amount I would have originally. It's in their best interest.
Exactly the conclusion I came to
I placed an order. But for a few £100 less than I would have if I knew about the duty. Hopefully an admin will read this and take note it's potentially causing them to lose sales.
Do you think, the £390 is the value of just the item? Or the item and shipping cost? Or the value of the item and vat when it’s been applied? Or the total with the item, shipping and vat applied? My order was £313 with shipping, and then my bank added another £10 conversion fee and then fees when it gets here might take it to just over the £390 threshold
Everything I read it was just based on the item value. Shipping and taxes (VAT) are not considered. But if you do go over the £390 figure, duty is due on the whole item price. Not just the amount over £390. So there could be a large jump for higher value items. We need to know what customs code Fanatec products fall under. Someone in their logistics team will know this. We just need their input on this. Might raise a ticket with support. I suggest you guys do the same and we can post our findings on here.
I had assumed it was just the item value but wasn’t absolutely sure
I had a look at the duty and it appears to be 0% and VAT is 20%: https://www.trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/commodities/9504500000#import
This is for video game consoles and presumably controllers. It may be different for the forthcoming BMW wheel because that may be classified as a car part.
Thanks Evert. Hopefully get some confirmation that's the case over the next few weeks. So we can feel more comfortable placing larger orders. I hope there are no hidden fees from UPS too. They do like to make their little profits as well! I looked into that on their website, but couldn't see anything specific. Which wasn't surprising.
Nice one Evert
Bloody hope not, the shipping for my wheel this time was 35 euros, it was 21 last time
They should really improve the cost of their shipping options for UK, or setup a UK distribution now we're out of the EU. I've wanted a brake performance kit for my V3s for ages, but the shipping was as much as the kit. So it had to wait until I did a bigger order.
or use digital motorsport.

Thanks Alex. Wasn't aware of that company. They are based in Ireland. So to the UK assume we need to pay VAT and duty the same as anywhere else in the EU??Shipping may be more favourable however.
Didnt know they are considered outside UK. Thought it was northern ireland that is considered part of UK.
The whole brexit thing has everyone confused.
They seem to be in Ireland, rather than Northern Ireland. Which is EU. So am assuming same rules apply as if we were buying from Germany. But my assumptions could be totally wrong. Still very useful. Thanks for sharing.
So, I’ve just paid my import duty, and it was more than 20 percent VAT, unfortunately UPS don’t break down the charge so you don’t know exactly what you’re paying. My total for item and shipping was £313, the shipping was £31, so my item alone should have been £282. Import duty was £77 payable to UPS. VAT should have been around £56 so UPS must have put an additional charge on. £31 to ship was a rip off to start with, and then an extra £21 too?? I’m sorry Fanatec, I love your stuff but I won’t be buying anything else.
Well, turns out there must be hidden fees because I was charged more than 20 percent of the whole price including the shipping. UPS have charged me basically £51 to ship a 1.9 kg package
That’s the last thing I’ll buy from Fanatec now with that shipping cost
Yeah. That's ridiculous. I think i might cancel my order.
Yeah, that cost is way more than I expected
You pay VAT on shipping too. You wouldn't have had any import duty as there is an agreement between UK and EU that waives this as part of the deal. So you would pay £62.60 VAT and a fee to UPS for completing the import paperwork of around £14. This is nothing to do with Fanatec - it now applies to anything imported into the UK from any seller in the EU. This is what the UK voted for. Taking back control! 🙄
So all in all £51 to ship a 1.9kg box. Some might think that’s ok, I think that’s a rip off and I won’t be doing it again.
I've sent an email to Fanatec asking them to clarify costs for us. And referenced this thread.
No one is thinking is ok but globaly where customs are being charged you pay x% import duty on freight and invoice + x% VAT.
Nothing that can be done from any supplier outside UK unfortunatelly.
Those are the PERKS of Brexit unfortunatelly.
What I was getting at more so is that when I bought my first bundle, base, wheel and pedals, the shipping was 21 euros for everything. Which was 3 separate boxes. So around £18.... this one has cost me £52 quid for 1 wheel. That’s almost 3 times the price for a third less boxes and weight. That’s scandalous
Blame the Brexit voters for that, and not any supplier within the EU.
