Podium DD1 + APM Miss Shifts Issue
Hey, since I've seen there are more people than just me with this issue I decided to make a thread for it where we can share information and possibly find a solution or at least provide more info for fanatec. So if you got same issue - feel free to provide as much information as you can.
Problem Description
Sometimes when I'm shifting gears with Advanced Paddle Module the gear just does not change. It happens like once per 200 gear shifts. May be worth mentioning that this issue does not appear in first ~20 minutes of racing (or maybe it is just a coincidence). The issue started like 1,5 year ago (im not sure if it started after some update or just randomly).
Things i tried to fix issue:
- completely replacing my PC (only disk drives left from the old one)
- reinstalling everything - drivers, games, etc.
- grounding my rig
- replacing power supply
- updating wheel base drivers
- replacing podium hub (APM is connected to it)
- unscrewing QR from the base, reconnecting the cables etc
- replacing base -> PC USB B -----> USB A cable
- removing any hubs between dd1 and PC
- changing usb slots (3.0, 2.0 blabla)
I think the issue is related to base (or at least it is not related to the APM directly) because:
- i've got a new APM module from fanatec (warranty) - still miss shifting
- tried my friend's F1 Wheel, the blue one from PS bundle - still miss shifting (he has also DD1 and doesn't have such problems as me).
I've also got PBME (connected to same podium hub) which also has some "buttons" and i've never ever had any issue that the button click was not recognized.
My wheel + base setup:
- DD1
- CSV3 (connected to base, but im gonna try connecting it via usb soon - maybe there is some issue)
- Podium Hub + PBME + APM

Hello!!. The exact same thing happens to me with PBME. I don't remember that it did with PS v2. I also do not remember what happened to me in ACC or in any other simulator that is not Iracing. Iracing is also the one that spent the most time together with Automobilista2. It is impossible for me to recreate the error. It is very sporadic.

Latest drivers and Fanalab installed
Same here,
The only way to solve the problem is to go back to the 442 driver. The firmware versions are different and the problem is not present.
Fanatec has been aware of the problem for more than 6 months, but according to Maurice it’s still under investigation and no result yet.. it’s very annoying
The problem is that you can't go back to the v442 driver if you want to have updated fanalab which is now amazing. I hope Fanatec solves the problem and we can have everything. Little by little he is getting it!!
I prefer to do without fanalab for the time being, the gearshift problem is driving me crazy. And the problem has been there for a while. It's a shame, because it clearly ruins the user experience...
Hello!. After a few tests and sessions... since the error is so sporadic it is still not safe. But I have not noticed failures in ACC or Automobilista 2. If you still notice them infrequently I must say in iracing. In case it helps anything. Greetings!!
Yeah it is not safe especially when you try to compete in racing... Sad we need to downgrade software to have it fixed
Hi guys. Any fix yet? Podium f1 - blue alcantara wheel user here (with APM). I am on ps5. After updating to latest driver & firmware, the right paddle shifter tends to miss shift in some cases.
Any fix yet? Thanks a lot.
Mihai
Same here, when using podium shifter module on the podium hub the right shifter doesn’t respond sometimes. It’s very hit and miss. I reset the DD2, power on off and it seems to work ok for a period of time before missing shifts again.
I have no idea why this is happening, firmware, cable, connections, who knows, but if others are having some problem with right hand shifter sounds like a common problem.
Has anyone got a definitive fix?
Got the same issue. DD2+MC rally wheel+APM. After installing 457 driver with it's firmwares the missshifts got wild. Tried reinstalling driver, all firmwares - all the same.
Went back to 455 wiht f/ws included with it - so far the issue seems to be solved. Not a single missed shift in approx 1/2hour ea wrc seat-time.
My DD1 with F12023 is doing the same, have tried a 455 rollback, though i couldn't find in the downgrade firmware an option to go back to the base firmware included with the 455 driver.
Same experience for me then.
Figured out a safe roll back.
Went back to 455,
No more miss-shifts
For a couple of months now I have been struggling to up shift every now and then. I used to think it was WRC wheel already dying after just a couple of months. But then I switched to the default F1 wheel with the advanced paddle shifters that came with the Podium DD and the same thing seems to be happening. It is happening really intermittent and I have no issues with the downshifts.
I keep struggling with missshifts, to a point im getting nuts, ive tried everything, both with EBM and RBM using the magnetic non APM paddles... not sure something wrong on my side... if i go to the control panel and downshift or upshift ( most noticeable on upshift ) sometimes it doesnt register 1 shift .... not sure what else to do
Hey!
How did you do the downgrade from 457 to 455 on the DD1? please, I can not find a way
Not sure if this will help troubleshoot.
I have a podium F1 Wheel (DD1 for PS4/5) and I just changed my wheel from the original blue wheel to the new 2021 Limited Edition wheel (the one that glows).
I never had this issue before, with the new wheel I now have this issue. Is there a chance this issue is related to the wheel and not the wheelbase?
New development - I put the right shifter from my old wheel, and put it on my new wheel - still testing. It no miss shifts so far - potentially an APM issue?
I will keep testing and keep this thread updated
The change log for the latest Fanalab version says this:
Not sure if this is referring to the issue in this thread but it might be.
Hi
Reverted to driver 455 and everything works perfectly.
Currently installed QR2.
Anyone an idea if the problem is already solved and we can go back to the latest driver? And fanalab?
I now seem to be getting erratic shifting, both up and down, on my DD1. This happens no matter which of my wheels I have connected - BMW M4, McLaren GT3, Xbox Hub with APM - it happens with all of them.
It's not game specific as I can see if happening in the Fanatec control panel.
Sometimes shifts don't register at all, sometimes they happen later than they should. I've just downgraded from driver 457 to 455 but this doesn't appear to have made any difference. I've tried closing Fanalab, again with no effect.
It's making online racing a little scary, I've already had one race-ending crash where the upshift didn't go through and the guy behind slammed into me.
Yes it is definitely not fixed, still happening to me as well, on ACC on WRC and with 3 different wheels attached.
I've just downgraded to Wheel Base DD1 Firmware 687, DD1 Motor Firmware 41 and driver 440 and it appears to be fixed.
I need to grab the old version of Fanalab that works with this driver and check the problem doesn't come back, but so far it's looking good.
I can now downshift up and down through the box as fast as I like and every shift goes through every time, at least so far. Fingers crossed!
Installed FanaLab 1.63.6 that works with driver 440 and the M4 GT3 wheel and all still seems well, rattling through shifts in the Fanatec control panel all looks good, the indicators perfectly match the shifts I'm making (which definitely wasn't the case before I downgraded the firmware, as above).
Upgraded the driver to 455 (but didn't upgrade firmware) and shifts are still looking good, so it looks to be a firmware problem rather than a driver problem.
Just did a 45 minute IMSA race on iRacing, every shift was perfect. Rolling back the firmware has definitely fixed this for me.
I've now upgraded to the firmware that comes with driver 455, so now running 3.0.4.3 and 3.0.0.2, and all is still good, shifts are still functioning properly.
This suggests to me that the issue must be caused by DD1 base firmware 3.0.4.4 (driver 456) or 3.1.0.7 (driver 457).
Took the time to do a bit more testing on the later firmware and driver versions. It looks like the problem starts when upgrading firmware from 3.0.4.3 to 3.0.4.4 or later.
Great discovery!
I upgraded the driver and firmware for my DD2 to 462 and I missed gears like 10-15% of the time (maybe less, but very distracting). Then I used the downgrade firmware feature to driver version 440, and then everything worked again. Then upgraded to driver version 455 and firmware (3.0.4.3 and 3.0.0.2) and it still works as it should.
Tested a Formula 2.5X with normal magnetic paddle shifters and a APM on a Endurance Button Module - Podium HUB - Both QR2 - Works great again!!
Thank you again! :)
Great to hear it worked for you.
I'm now running driver 462 with firmware 3.0.4.3 (from driver 455) and shifts are still working perfectly. There's definitely a problem introduced with firmware 3.0.4.4 that's still there with all later versions up to this point.
462 with 3.1.0.7 on the DD1 has not eliminated the issue.
So I've been struggling with the missshifts in a particular range of angles -20* to -58*, started a couple months ago only with the right shifter now also with the left and fisrtly it was 1 to 200 shifts, tday its consitently not shifting...
I have a :
Ive done many of the steps explained. I had Driver 462 with the lastest firmware
Wheel Base: 3.0.4.3
Wheel Base Motor 3.0.0.2
Steering Wheel: 47
QR: 7
Ive than downgraded to 429, new firmware, than 439, 447, 455 - no luck, shifting was still not working in these angles...
Do you guys have any other suggestions?
I now use:
